CZMEL

2D cohesive zone model
:!: Still under development (?) - Last update: 2005 (C. Lequesne)

Description

This element models the fracture of a material in case of monotone loading or fatigue. This element, which models an interface of the crack, is composed with 2 nodes and linked with a foundation which models the other interface.

Direction convention: when one follows the element in the way of the nodes 1 → 2, the body in contact with the CZMEL is on the left and the foundation is on the right.

This element uses the cohesive law of Xu and Needleman, and can be coupled with the fatigue computed with the Lemaitre and Chaboche law.

It can be use in case of plane stress state or plane strain state.

Notes:

  • In case of fatigue it is required that ILIEN is equal to 1 (Prepro: 2nd line and 65th column)
  • In symmetric case, the foundation must be the symmetric line.

Results

Stress:

  • $T$ Shear stress
  • $T_n$ Normal stress

Internal variables:

  • The first ones are the variables computed by the constitutive law (cf. FCZM or FCZML in law section)
  • The next ones is about the contact geometry:
    • DUT: The shear separation
    • DUN: The normal separation
    • DDUT: The shear displacement rate
    • DDUN: The normal separation rate
